The City of Teotihuacan
Teotihuacan is an enormous archaeological site in the basin of Mexico which was believed to have been established around 200 BCE and had its fall between 7th and 8th centuries. As one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico, the city constitutes of some of the largest pyramidal structures that were built in the pre-Columbian Americas. It is located in what is now the San Juan Teotihuacan municipality and is chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In spite of being considered once as one of the main cities of the world, but still many things are not known even today like how did the people lived here and why did they leave the city? The archaeologists currently in their findings are able to acquire more information about the people and culture of the city and also finding out the answers for some of such questions that have been buried in the Pyramid of the Moon, for years.
Till now, many experts were in a thought that the city of Teotihuacan was a peaceful society and was governed by the wise and gentle leaders but they are discovering something else in their latest findings in the Pyramid of the Moon.
Archaeologists have found out several headless bodies that were of outsiders and most of them were buried alive with their hands tied along with the animals, weapons and other objects of power, of all that seemed to be the offerings to the gods.
Though the archaeologists are finding it difficult to interpret their findings in the pyramid but they have concluded that the city was not ruled by the peaceful rulers and the authorities have used human sacrifice for controlling the people.
The scientists have no idea as who the city’s leaders were and they have also not found a king buried in the pyramid or any effigies of the rulers. But they are still going on with their search and are hoping to find out more information about the city and also the creators of the pyramid.
